AS ROMA/ OFFICIAL, Montella retires
Striker Vincenzo Montella (35) has decided to retire and will begin a coaching career at AS Roma's youth academy.
The prolific and popular hitman scored 141 goals in Serie A in his career. He has played for Empoli, Genoa, Sampdoria, Fulham and AS Roma from 1990 until now. His best years were at Sampdoria (in the mid to late 90's) and AS Roma (where he won a Serie A title and the Italian Supercup in 2001). Montella has 20 caps and 3 goals for the Italian national team.
After his announcement, Montella spoke to Roma Channel today and said : "It will take me some time to get used to the idea of being retired. But, there are times in life when a footballer must decide and have the courage to stop playing before it's too late. I will always be thankful to AS Roma and I am looking forward to begin my new coaching career. I am very attached to AS Roma".
